With the BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series heading to Zwartkops Raceway for the fourth time in 2026 this weekend (11-12 September), all eyes will be on the five points tables, and who will be on top of them after Round 6.
In Class A, Anton Pommersheim has held the lead since Round 1. 43 of his 74 points came in the first two rounds, both held at Zwartkops Raceway. However, the three subsequent rounds saw him add just about half that. While mechanical issues played its part, another factor that limited his results has been his main rival, Lee Thompson. Starting his campaign in Round 3, Thompson has taken all-but-one point on offer, and now finds himself trailing Pommersheim by 12 points. Thus far, it also looks like Class A will be limited to four entrants, which also limits the number of points on offer. The other two entrants are Leon Loubser, eager to launch a late charge, and Bob Neill, who missed the previous outing.
Part of the reason that Class A will be limited to four entries is Nishal Singh opting to move into Class B following the mid-season rule change regarding slick tyres. With Renier Smith missing the coastal round, Ethan Coetzee moved to the top of the class. He currently leads Smith by nine points. While Coetzee’s recent form has been superb, Smith is known to show strong form and pace at Zwartkops Raceway. Also in this battle will be Wessel Mostert and Lenard Archer.
The Class C battle is another closely contested affair heading into the weekend. Reinhardt Miller, Oz Biagioni, and Anand Naidu are separated by two points. Eight points behind Naidu is Bennie Luyt, who lost the lead while missing Round 5. All four drivers have had their stint at the top of the class, but it is Miller and Biagioni who will likely have that little bit of a mental edge heading into the weekend. Fifth-placed Nicky Dicks has also been having a consistent season. Alan Hilligenn, Salvi Gualtieri, and Sheldon Chetty will also be in contention.
Michael Grobler heads up Class D by nine points over Craig Herbst, but apart from battling each other, they will also need to keep an eye on their rivals. Gerald Anthony heads up that list, which includes Eugene Gouws, and recent winner Sayen Moodley. While Johan Miller occupies fifth place on the points table, he will look to find more pace after a challenging Gqeberha outing. Theo Chetty will also be back on the grid.
However, Grobler will be battling things out on two fronts this weekend. While he leads his class by nine points, he trails Pommersheim by five, and he could well be the driver who will emerge on on top of the Turbo Cup points table after this weekend.
Saturday’s first race, consisting of 10 laps, will start at 11:10, with the second 12-lap encounter scheduled for 14:35. Saturday’s full Extreme Festival race programme will be broadcast live on Extreme Festival website, and will start with the first BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series Turbo Cup race.
